Mergers and acquisitions have characterized the 98 years of Itaú Unibanco
Unibanco was founded in 1924 by João Moreira Salles. At the time, the institution was named Casa Moreira Salles and aimed to serve as a financial center, as an extension of the family’s coffee business.
Itaú was founded in 1943 by Alfredo Egydio de Souza Aranha, under the name of Banco Central de Crédito.
The first equity fund is launched in Brazil by Itaú, pioneering the Asset Management industry in the country.
Start of operations in Chile with the acquisition of BankBoston’s Latin America units.
Merger of Itaú and Unibanco, creating the current Itaú Unibanco group, the largest Brazilian bank by market cap.
Creation of Itaú USA Asset Management Inc, based in New York and focused on Latin American Equities.
Integration of Portfolio Solutions team to Itaú USA Asset Management.
